Jetstar Airways is an Australian low-cost airline headquartered in Melbourne.Jetstar is part of Qantas' two brand strategy of having Qantas Airways for the premium full-service market and Jetstar for the low-cost market. Jetstar carries 8.5% of all passengers travelling in and out of Australia. The airline operates an extensive domestic network as well as regional and international services from its main base at Melbourne Airport, using a mixed fleet of the Airbus A320 family and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Like its Qantas parent, Jetstar competes with Virgin Australia and Virgin’s fully owned low-cost subsidiary Tigerair Australia.

Jetstar

Jetstar Airways is a low-cost carrier and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Qantas Group. Jetstar Airways launched Australian operations in May 2004; New Zealand trans-Tasman operations in December 2005; and New Zealand domestic operations in June 2009. The carrier also serves short- and long-haul overseas destinations. The brand also operates through a Singapore JV (as Jetstar Asia) and a Japanese JV (Jetstar Japan).

Jetstar’s mission is to offer low fares to enable more people to fly to more places, more often. Jetstar has one of the largest low-fare networks in Asia Pacific in terms of revenue. Jetstar-branded carriers operate more than 5,000 flights a week to more than 85 destinations and carry more than 250 million passengers.

Jetstar Airways operates in Australia and New Zealand as a wholly owned subsidiary of the Qantas group. Jetstar Airways Australia is the third largest airline in Australia (by domestic market share) and a top five international airline by capacity share, serving international routes to and from Australia.

Jetstar Airways New Zealand first launched in New Zealand in December 2005, flying trans-Tasman services between Sydney and Christchurch. Jetstar now operates more than 50 weekly international return services between Melbourne, Sydney, and the Gold Coast in Australia and Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Queenstown in New Zealand.

Based in Singapore and managed by Newstar Holdings, which is majority-owned by Singapore Company Westbrook Investments (51 percent), with the Qantas Group holding the remaining 49 percent, Jetstar Asia’s inaugural flight took off for Hong Kong on December 13, 2004.

With the vision of "Making your world more accessible," Jetstar Japan launched domestic routes in July 2012 and international routes in February 2015. Jetstar Japan has served more than 40 million customers since the launch. Jetstar Japan is a joint venture between the Qantas Group, Japan Airlines and Tokyo Century Corporation. As an integral part of the Qantas Group's two-brand strategy, operating in the leisure and value-based markets, the group has a wide destination in Australia, New Zealand, the Pacific, and Asia. Jetstar Airways Australia flies to 22 domestic destinations in Australia and 16 international destinations in 10 countries across Asia, North America, and Oceania.

Domestic New Zealand operations were launched on June 10, 2009, with over 200 weekly return domestic flights on sale between Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Wellington, and Queenstown. Jetstar also provides service to Australia, the Cook Islands, Bali, Fiji, Japan, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Jetstar Asiaoperates services to regional destinations. Its main base is Changi Airport in Singapore. Together with sister company, Valuair, Jetstar's Asian operation provides low-cost regional services to 22 popular destinations in North and Southeast Asia, such as Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Macau, Myanmar, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Thailand. It also flies to regional routes in East Asia, such as Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

Jetstar Japan flies to 20 destinations in the Asia-Pacific region. While the airline mostly operates domestic flights within Japan, it also operates international flights to China, Hong Kong, the Philippines, and Taiwan.

Cancelation and Refund Policy

The Jetstar cancellation policy states that a passenger needs to pay 30 to 40% of the total fare as cancellation fees for canceling short-haul flights. If the flight is canceled within 72 hours of departure, the airline can charge a Jetstar booking cancellation fee of 70 to 200 dollars.

No refund is initiated when the passenger cancels the flight on the same day of departure. Passengers will receive a refund if the flight is canceled due to inclement weather, a global pandemic, natural disasters, government regulations, or technical issues. If passengers request it, the airline will provide free trips on the same route or travel vouchers for future flights with Jetstar Airlines.
