EasyJet
EasyJet is a British multinational low-cost airline group headquartered at London Luton Airport. EasyJetplc is listed on the London Stock Exchange and is a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index. EasyGroup Holdings Ltd. The investment vehicle of the airline's founder, Greek-Cypriot businessman Stelios Haji-Ioannou, is the largest shareholder with a 15.269 percent stake. The airline employs more than 13,000 people based in Europe, mainly in the United Kingdom.
EasyJet is a low-cost European point-to-point airline. Its portfolio of services includes flight booking, travel insurance, airport lounges, car rental, airport parking, airport transfers, holiday taxis, and others. The company provides holiday packages and hotel booking services in major European cities and beach destinations. It provides baggage handling and aircraft loading and unloading services at Gatwick, Bristol, and Manchester, the UK through its partner agencies.
On March 30, 2020, easyJet grounded its entire fleet of planes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They later closed three of their bases. Though the airline has been spared by the pandemic, it is gradually expanding its fleet.
In 1995, easyJet was established by Stelios, becoming the first company in what would later become the easyGroup conglomerate. When it first launches, the company employs 70 people and is based at London Luton Airport, which chose to give the airline a 15,000-square-foot building as its headquarters. They introduce the "paperless office" concept in their management. The airline initially operated a pair of wet leased Boeing 737-200 aircraft, each capable of seating 130 passengers. These were flown on two routes: Luton to Glasgow and Edinburgh, respectively. Early promotional activity focused on the airline's relatively low pricing compared to incumbent operators. Within its first year, easyJet reportedly carried approximately 40,000 passengers.
For many years, easyJet has been named the Best low-cost airline in Europe. In 2019, it ranked as the world's second-best low-cost airline. In 2016, easyJet was the most decorated airline in the world, taking home 10 different awards in a single year, which included the Best Low-Cost Airlines award from Publituris Portugal Travel. The Italian Mission named the airline the best low-cost airline for business travelers, among other things. This year, easyJet received the Italian Mission's Best Sustainability and Inclusion Initiatives of the Year 2022 award.
Destination (domestic or international)
easyJet is one of the largest airlines in the world, with 333 aircraft, operating over 1000 routes across 35 countries and 153 airports. We employ over 12,000 people, including 3,300 pilots and 7,500 cabin crew. Last year, we flew over 90 million passengers. easyJet Holidays was launched in 2019 in order to offer holiday packages that encourage the 84% of customers traveling for leisure to spend more with us, rather than book accommodation elsewhere. European travel is reviving and easyJet is increasing flights between now and December. For the autumn period, easyJet said that it would fly 70% of its pre-pandemic capacity, a jump from the 60% it had been aiming for only a month earlier, as demand for holidays surged, particularly in the UK where travel rules have been loosened. Winter sun destinations such as Egypt, Turkey, and the Canary Islands were popular, business travelers were returning to the skies, and easyJet's chief executive said that capacity would keep growing over 2022.
