SWISS Airlines
SWISS as colloquially known is a short cut for Swiss International Air Lines AG is the flag carrier of Switzerland, has operating scheduled services in Europe and to North America, South America Africa and Asia. Swiss was formed in 2002 after the former Switzerland flag carrier, Swissair, was bankrupt. The airline is a member of Star Alliance and a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group.
The global coronavirus pandemic, which had devastating effects on air transport, continues to hurt the company’s performance. Switzerland’s flag carrier, which is owned by Germany’s Lufthansa, said a factor in the higher losses is a cost-saving program for the airlines. The company shed about 550 jobs during the pandemic. It said the aim of an ongoing restructuring and transformation was to regain the confidence of investors and to maintain its competitive edge. Now the carrier has announced it will return to normal financial operations in 2023 as traffic improves.

With its workforce of some 9,000 personnel, SWISS is headed by Dieter Vranckx as CEO since January 1, 2021. Vranckx has 20 years of experience within the Lufthansa Group and was the previous CEO of Lufthansa Group member Brussels Airlines.
