Philippine Airlines
The Philippine airline is the flag carrier of the Philippines. Founded in 1941, it is considered the first and oldest commercial in the entire Asia operating under its original name. Though Philippine Airlines is founded by a group of businessmen led by Andres Soriano, eventually the airline is owned by PAL Holdings owned by Lucio Tan. The current President and CEO of the company is Mr. Jaime Bautista.
The airlines headquarters is in PNB Financial Center in Pasay City, in Metro Manila, Philippines. Being the ninth largest corporation in the Philippines in terms of revenue, it employs more than 6, 500 employees, that include 999 pilots and 2, 647 cabin crews as of 2017. PAL is the sixty-first largest airline in the world in terms of revenue passenger kilometers flown.
Due to the pandemic, the airline is cutting 30% of workforce both on the management and rank and file employees. The retrenchment of 30 percent of its workforce will affect about 2300 employees. Like other airline, they were lockdown for almost one year. Since March 2020, PAL has suspended capital expenditures, reduced management salaries, deferred lease payments, and slashed non-essential expenses. Flexible working arrangements were implemented during the height of the pandemic.
Now the airlines are starting to normalize their operations by gradually increasing domestically and international flights. The airline, assured its customers and partners that current operations would continue without disruptions. What is important is for the staff and the frequent flyers to adhere to safety protocol amidst the pandemic.
PAL Hubs and Focus Cities
The main hub of the airline is at Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila. Other hubs are located in Clark International Airport in Angeles City Pampanga, Mactan- Cebu International Airport in Cebu City and in Francisco Bangor International Airport in Davao City. Through its hubs around the country, Philippine Airlines serves 31 domestic destinations and 54 overseas destinations.
Baggage
In general, each flight ticket has its own Free Baggage Allowance (FBA) policy. This Free Baggage Allowance (FBA) entitlement is valid only on that specific flight and may not necessarily apply to your connecting flights. In Philippine Airlines, the total weight of the check-in baggage should follow the Free Baggage Allowance of the service class per route. This applies to domestic and international flights.
A single piece of checked baggage should weigh no more than 32kg (70lbs). Any baggage exceeding the 32kg weight limit must be repacked or will not be accepted for carriage. Check-in baggage that exceeds the allowed dimension and maximum weight shall be treated as oversized or overweight and an Excess Baggage Charge (EBC) shall be collected.
Infant's Baggage
An infant may also be allowed one fully collapsible stroller or infant's carrying basket or infant's car seat subject to availability of space.
For Dangerous Goods
For safety reasons, dangerous goods; articles or substances which are capable of posing a risk to health, safety, property or the environment must not be carried in passengers hand carried or checked baggage.
Reward programs
Airline loyalty programs reward customers for buying tickets by giving them points, sometimes called miles, that can be used for free trips, upgrades, and other things. The programs are most valuable to airlines in non-hub cities, since those cities often have choices of which airline to fly for most trips.
In Philippine Airlines’ Mabuhay Miles is a frequent flyer program with miles of difference. It lets you experience that warm Filipino touch as you fly around the world. It lets you experience that pleasing hospitality the Philippines has been known for in the whole world.
Earn Flight Miles with the largest network in the Philippines, and many more destinations around the world – including North Asia, Southeast Asia, Australia, North America, Middle East and Europe. The account holder can also earn miles from non-flights thru purchases; dine in, call, travel, entertainments and lifestyles.
